Our partner Erni Loosen came relatively late into his family’s 200-year old wine business, but felt passionate about bringing the focus back to top-end, highly concentrated and terroir-focused wines. When he took the reins he quickly realized that his family’s ungrafted old (some over 100 years old) vines and their incredibly low yields were perfectly suited for the crafting of such wines. Armed with his recently completed vinicultural degree, Erni set out to travel around the great wine regions of the world, seeking out the best winemakers to discover what they had in common. When he returned home, he had a newly honed dedication to producing wines that boldly proclaim their heritage and respect tradition. In the vineyards, he committed to shifting the family’s practices to organic to best allow this world-class terroir to shine through. He also inherited the old-school cellar, which left him no choice but to use more traditional, non-interventionist methods, ideal for making some of the most complex, elegant Rieslings out there. Dr. Loosen and their wines have since received countless awards and high scores from all the international wine publications.
